Well this has been a fairly crap few weeks. Here are the bad news
- Conditions for children in many Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory are appalling enough to send in UN peacekeepers with starvation, widespread child rape etc. “Somehow” the story didn’t quite make it to the front page.
- Global hunger down to under a billion!. Oh wait, figures are pre-Pakistan-flood, where 12,000 children are recently malnourished. Actually this is probably still an overall improvement on 2009 but I’m putting it in bad news nonetheless.
- Juarez is so controlled by the cartels that the news media have published an open letter to them saying essentially: since you run the town, what exactly would you like us to print that will let us keep our lives?
- Fresh off the presses, DADT repeal fails
- What happens when you re-enter the USA and refuse to say what you were doing overseas
- Nice jeremiad on civil liberties and the war on terror
- Kaliningrad: Minks starved to death over unpaid wages. And I mean tens of thousands.
- Maine newspaper apologises for the “insensitivity” of showing Muslims on the front page in a story about Ramadan on Sep 11
- Men: they just don’t wash their hands after going to the toilet.
This might warrant a bit of cheering up so I’m going to try a lucky dip of other links (good news and interesting stories). No description, so click through at your own curiosity! It’s all SFW.
