80 Killed In Pakistan Mosque Attack

A long-persecuted minority Muslim sect suffered its worst assault ever on Friday, May 28, when armed militants attacked two mosques in the heart of Lahore, Pakistan’s cultural capital and second largest city. More than 80 members of the city’s Ahmedi community were killed and scores injured, according to a top police official, in a dramatic four-hour siege in which militants deployed a bomb, grenades and heavy gunfire. This was an attack on the Ahmadiyya sect, who consider themselves as Muslim but are considered as non-Muslims by various Muslim orthodoxies.

Sorry, I forgot: apparent religious conflicts have nothing to do with religion and are just about the general nature of people being people with roots that are only explained by social, financial, economic and historical causes. Absolutely nothing to do with the actual teachings of any religion. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has absolutely nothing nothing nothing to do with Judaism or Islam, you ignoramus!

As for the bombing in Lahore. It is the fault of US imperialist foreign policy. It is the fault of the extremist Pakistani government. It is the fault of the economic inequalities in Pakistan. But — and let me tell you this for a fact — it has NOTHING to do with Islamic law or theology…and anyone who suggests otherwise is a cultural imperialist!…and so forth.

Finally, if this attack teaches us anything, it’s that Richard Dawkins is an extremist.
