A few months ago, Gapminder launched a Facebook app that’s basically a short quiz. I think it’s very instructive. You can get the app directly here but here’s the actual quiz. Choose an alternative for each of the 8 questions and then scroll to the bottom of the post for the answers:
Which country has the more [average] births per woman?
- Spain or Pakistan?
- New Zealand or Iran?
- Romania or France?
- Israel or Vietnam?
Which country has the better child survival?
- South Korea or USA?
- Turkey or Sri Lanka?
- Russia or Malaysia?
- Singapore or UK?

Each bold item is the correct answer. The stuff on the right shows how I went…
If this doesn’t show how much of our “common knowledge” about the world is…uhm…non-reality-based, I don’t know what will. What’d you get?

I got 4/8. You did good.
Thanks, but I had the advantage of listening to all of Rosling’s TED talks and playing around with the GapMinder tool!
